Congressman Scott Peters Presents Making Democracy Work Award to Canyon Crest Academy in San Diego

On April 29, Congressman Scott Peters of California’s 52d District presented the United States Capitol Historical Society’s 2012 Making Democracy Work first prize $1,000 award to Canyon Crest Academy in San Diego.  The award was made in recognition of the first place finish in the senior high division of the student essay contest by Canyon Crest Academy’s student, Vaishnavi Rao. Present for the award presentation were Ms. Rao, her parents, and Canyon Crest Academy Principal, Brian Köhn and Assistant Principals Elise Davies and Jeff Copeland. Congressman Peters, in addition to representing the district, helped open Canyon Crest Academy during his time on the San Diego city council. The 2012 Making Democracy Work Student Essay Contest was funded by a grant to the Society from Amway.
