Memorial Trees on the Capitol Grounds

Ted Bechtol, Superintendent of the Capitol Grounds will discuss the many trees on the Capitol Grounds that have historic or memorial associations. A number commemorate members of Congress and other notable citizens, national organizations and special events. In addition, more than 30 states have made symbolic gifts of their state trees on the Capitol Grounds.

The Historic Congressional Cemetery: Capitol Connections Tour

Founded in 1807 , this historic burial ground in the new federal city is a resting place for many involved in the building and creation of the Capitol as well as Members of Congress, and government officials. Learn more about the “residents” of the Cemetery and ongoing preservation efforts.

Library of Congress: The Civil War in America Exhibit Tour

The Civil War in America assembles more than 200 unique items, many of which have never been seen by the public, the commemorate the sesquicentennial of this nation’s greatest military and political upheaval. Drawing from hundreds of thousands of items from across many collections of the Library of Congress, the materials included in this exhibition attest to the valor sacrifices emotions and accomplishments of those in both the North and South whose lives were affected by the bitter conflict of 1961-1865.
