USCHS 2016 Joint Committee Taxation Reception Panel Discussion

January 7, 2016

In February 2016, the Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) will celebrate its 90th anniversary. The U.S. Capitol Historical Society (USCHS) will host an evening reception from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on February 24, 2016, for 200 guests in Statuary Hall, including Members of Congress, committee staff, staff alumni, USCHS members, and invited guests, followed by a half-day program of speakers and panelists in the Capitol Visitor Center on February 25, 2016, who will reflect on the history and role of the JCT in the legislative process.

USCHS President Ron Sarasin as well as JCT Chairman Orrin Hatch and JCT Vice-Chairman Kevin Brady will co-host the evening reception. Senator Ron Wyden and Representative Sander Levin will also join Chairman Hatch and Vice-Chairman Brady for brief remarks at the reception.

The panel discussions will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (noon). Notable participants will include: Ronald Pearlman, George Yin, Joseph Thorndike, James Wetzler, Randall Weiss, Bob Shapiro, Jeffrey Birnbaum, John Samuels, and Mel Schwarz.

The U.S. Capitol Historical Society has sponsored an evening tribute to a House or Senate Committee annually for the past 19 years. We are delighted to be honoring the JCT on their 90th anniversary and our 20th anniversary of honoring the work of a House or Senate Committee. Traditionally, this annual event has brought members of the committee together for an evening of camaraderie, anecdotes, and remembrances. By invitation only to select Society membership levels.
