Event Description

The World War One Unknown Soldier was interred on November 11, 1921.

On November 11, 1921, an unknown soldier who gave his life in service to his country during the First World War was interred at Arlington National Cemetery, marking the completion of the significant effort to create this hallowed resting place. On Tuesday, September 28 at Noon EDT, USCHS Director of Scholarship Samuel Holliday will discuss the history this solemn memorial’s creation by Congress, the World War One Unknown Soldier’s journey home, and the tomb’s three subsequent expansions. The event is free and open to the public; registration is required.
