Toward a More Perfect Union: The Lasting Impact of Slavery
Slavery is the original sin of the American Experiment. No issue posed a greater challenge to the founding ideals of liberty and equality than race-based slavery, and there has been no greater roadblock to our nation’s journey towards a more perfect union than the institution which prompted a civil war. The lasting impacts of slavery are real and powerful more than 150 years after its abolition. On Thursday, February 4th, join Dr. Manisha Sinha – chair of the University of Connecticut Department of History – for a discussion of these impacts, their history, and what our nation can learn moving forward.
