USCHS Operations & COVID-19

UPDATED MARCH 16, 2020

The United States Capitol Historical Society (USCHS) is closely monitoring the spread of COVID-19, and is implementing an action plan consistent with the guidelines of the CDC and other public health experts.

All of our public events, including our lunchtime lectures, are canceled until further notice. We hope to reschedule many of these events in the future; updates will be posted on our website and social media.

We are currently working out a plan for our 2020 Symposium with our partners, the Kluge Center at the Library of Congress and the National Women’s Suffrage Commission. Similarly, we are working out a plan for the Heritage Lecture, currently scheduled for May 4. Stay tuned for details.

Most of our staff will continue to work remotely throughout the coming weeks. You can continue to contact us through email and phone as usual.

In order to protect the health of our merchandise department, a reduced onsite work schedule will allow us to continue processing orders while also staying within recommended guidelines for social distancing. During this time, no rush orders will be accepted. Packages will be shipped on Wednesdays only; limited order pickup can be arranged in advance.

USCHS is committed to civic education and the appreciation of the Capitol, Congress, and the Constitution. Throughout this public health emergency, we invite you to enjoy our online resources. This is an excellent time to catch up with The Capitol Dome, watch our oral history video series, or learn more about Capitol artwork. Families with children at home can take advantage of our excellent online educational resources, including the Capitol Stories web feature, the We the People video series, and lesson plans for students K-12.

As our country confronts these challenging times, we have an opportunity to reflect upon our history and our values. When we are able again to enter our Capitol and to enjoy gathering with our friends and colleagues, we will appreciate all the more that our strength as a nation truly is We the People
